There is no point in trying any longer and finally admit it. It is time to write about Eurovision again. I've been trying to hold off but too much happened. So much in fact I will have to split my entries. So I am going to start with "nightmare Ukraine" and follow by why ESC music is the best yet trashiest music in the whole world.
Why nightmare Ukraine? Let me tell you why. I have not once in my active time in ESC had such negativity happening before an event. With startling news about mass slaughtering of stray dogs to organizational issues leading to resignations all over the place. In between the news that probably nobody cares about and never reached media but is outrages for fans, this year OGAE (the official ESC fan club) members will not get fan packages. Further let-down for us hardcore fans, accreditations will be much more limited than in recent years, probably leading to not getting into the euroclub as I am used. The issues around the ticket sales were just an annoying cherry on top: first the ticket sales date was only published very short notice and at a very late stage (3month before ESC). In addition, the ticket sale did not go smoothly either, and left many people worried. While concert.ua has done a good job in creating an English site, allowing international addresses and numbers to be added, the fear of credit card fraud was high. We will probably only notice in a few month if reports of stolen credit cards emerge again and if I will still have money on my bank account. Talking about bank account, I also spent my last substantial sum of money before unemployment hits my account on fabrics for ESC. I bought several yards of organic fabrics with self designed heart-shaped flag prints. They have partially been delivered and I need to be honest I hate the feel of the organic cotton sateen material. It feels rather stiff and unnatural. Not quite sure yet how to make my dresses, as the designs need to match the fabric. I was hoping for a more flowing material. Also, with one the print is way to big to look good on a small person-good thing I am size extra. On the bright side, I am in love with the the organic cotton knit fabric. It has such a lovely texture. I'm looking forward to getting the stoff'n order containing 3 more organic materials to compare to the spoonflower ones.

And there lies the problem with last minute ideas: they almost always mess up the plan. Because I wanted to have a few of my designs printed out in case I wanna show them (not that that would actually happen), I missed the subway I wanted to take. Well technical issue with my printer delayed me leaving. With a 15min delay I got into a subway to arrive at the s-bahn station and naturally the trains are delayed due to engine issues... With all of this I am almost certain I won't get to the green salon in time to listen to the talk about gots at 12noon.
I want to throw a tantrum about how stupid I am and how unfair the world is and that karma is indeed a bitch. But as that won't change a thing, instead I am focusing on writing. Thinking about the positive things in live. I slept in - I have a day off- the s-bahn is heated but not hot- I am on my way to an event that only fashion insiders can go to. I am so glad I am working with Anna! Now I do want to throw that tantrum after all. I am 1-2 stations away from the postbahnhof and they just played the message that we will be delayed as the rails are blocked! I mean come on! Karma, what have I done to deserve to be on your bad side? So I did indeed miss the GOTS talk. In the meantime I found some good sources that might help me find a local manufacture for my print as well as garments. Getting a smaller carbon footprint already. Overall this show confirms the natural view of Eco-fashion. Dull prints or plain colors all over the place. In total I found two designers that actually had bright colors in print. One of them used recycled polyamid. With that I would have liked to learn where they produced but they were never available for questions. Now I am waiting on the next talk providing market research for the ethical fashion industry. What do I take away from that? Ethical fashion is now more than ever important for survival rather than nice to have. It is more responsible fashion than anything. And then on my way out I talked to Feldmann Wolf. The above mentioned designer and guess what they print their fabric in Stuttgart and the sewing is done in Buxtehude by refugees. Interesting. Now I had to decide if I stay there doing nothing for almost 4 hours or go home. Had I seen any of the labels that excited me from the show line up I might have. But having seen that they had videos on Facebook I decided to leave and review all the leavelets I had collected. In the end it was the right decision to leave. Watching the fashion show on Facebook I have to admit it was more professional than the alternative fashion show. And funny enough on stage even the dull designs looked extremely cool and I would consider wearing it. So I understand the appeal of this type of apparel. It has been 2 weeks since BAFW. Not much has happened. I am still happy about the fact that I bought a lovely jumper from Denim Project and some jewelery too: Overall it was a great weekend and despite all the technical difficulties a wonderful experience worth every penny :)
Now, why I have to put fashion on hold (though it is never really on hold): I am finally due for my sabbatical. What that means, is that I will be travelling through the States for 3 weeks before coming back home to Dublin for a week an celebrating my next big 0. With only a backpack I am worried, that I will not have everything with me that I will need. However, all you really need is a passport and a working credit card. But then again I am German (I refuse to wear the German Tourist Outfit though) and as a Stereotype I have a pretty detailled plan, including the Dalles Fashion Show and my very own treat: the Deluxe Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Hollywood :) I will try to give updates whenever I can. At this stage I am not even sure if I will have internet...So hopefully I can use this blog as my travel diary or I see you in 5 weeks This week was Berlin Fashion week and guess who was in the middle of it all :) Well, not in the middle but at the side line - second row last night.
After waiting for what felt like forever and some obstacles to get it (nobody know if my ticket was valid or not), the REUSE:it Show started at about 8.45. I was trying to take some pictures to show - but they just did not so the Art on stage justice. I filmed a few shows, but I am sure BAFW.de will provide professional videos from the show... Here the official teaser: https://youtu.be/CnHhDWcMYx8 Here are some attempts from the last act... man- they rocked! You might remember this. A while ago I posted that I was faced with the decision between staying in Dublin and moving to Berlin. Well, I have packed my bags and I am almost ready to go. In a weeks time I will be boarding the plane to Schönefeld.
While I will leave this beautiful country behind me, I am taking wonderful memories with me (and about 35 moving boxes :O) I am thankful to those, who empowered me to take a step into the direction of becoming a person in my own right and starting the venture into fashion. I am also thankful to a wonderful team, that surprised me today by showing their support in my fashion dreams by handing me a "Bank of Dreams" cheque as a farewell gift. I am really touched by the support I am getting from all around me and I am looking forward to showing you the results of that support! Thank you! thank you! Selection of pictures are uploaded!!!! There are 2-3 fotos I would like to re-take as it was too windy and too rushed. As a result some of the pictures don't really show the desired look of the outfits. However, overall I am soooo happy that this is done!
Visit: http://www.k-eleven.com/pictures.html for the separat fotos and feel free to leave any comments :) Back to Fashion... and am I back with bang? Yes I am! I finally have my winter collection wrapped. And because this took so long I also finished the shoot for the Summer collection!
It was a pretty exciting day with my lovely Photographer Charlotte and my two beautiful models Ana and Silvana! I met this morning to get ready with hair and make up. 2h later we went of to the location to note that the access was closed up! So we kind of sneaked in. Fearing that we get kicked out we rushed the 11 Outfits and what an amazing result we got. I have already seen the raw data and will get them shortly. I will need to select the final pictures to share with everyone... can't wait to show you the results! London Fashion Weekend is coming up and I am almost ready to go! With crutches and birkenstocks but we can't all look fashionable, right? But my own fashion style asside, I am looking forward to meeting a few fashionistas/ bloggers and most importantly attending one of the trend fashion shows plus at least one designer talk: Katharine Hammett. I also have some good news on my own collection: my wonderful model Silvana picked up the collection for me! Naturally not everything went smoothly: The collection does not fit Silvana so I need a new model and multiple designs are not what I had hoped them to be like. I have already spoken with the manufactory and once I can drive my car again, I can drop the garments back in and discuss changes that are needed. But here is a little taste of what my winter collection looks like:
yes, it has been over a year. And yes, I have tons of excuses but none good enough to explain my absense. However, I was not idle during this time. A lot has happened. So what better way to say farewell to 2015 than with a recap of my very own 2015... Here is what you missed:
After my last collection, I lost focus on my designing and tried to get a better role in my day-to-day job. But I still designed a few things... I worked on a doctor who themed dress for a friend (unfortunatelly I do not have a picture of the finished dress, but below you can get an idea of what I did). I also created two very different dresses for myself (see below :)) and most importantly I worked on my AW16/17 collection. Yes, that's right! It is not a big collection, but I expect the new foto series to be completed in early february. I stayed true to my previous designs and worked in gray tones- this time my print not so abstract - showing blood cells. I will show you soon. Inspired by the movie "I Origins" I looked at Irises and created a few new fabrics. I already uploaded them to Spoonflower, now all I need are new designs and the money to buy the fabric :)
Here are my a few of my newly created fabric designs (and yes, these are all someones iris): |
